Slide Bushings

Slide Bushings are used where accurate linear movement of a large object is required. Punch die presses, molds and other machine tooling applications are common.

An entire slide bushing assembly with two shafts, as shown in the following figure, is often seen in production presses and molds. Since a slight misalignment from parallelism of the shafts can create binding, sometimes allowance is made for play perpendicular to the shaft axes.

To illustrate a slide bushing in greater detail, the female portion of a slide bushing is shown in the next figure. The recirculating balls are visible, that allow indefinite linear movement along the slide limited only by the shaft length.

A cutaway of the same female slide bushing is illustrated as the following to show the assembly of a slide bushing.
