About Douglas Electrical Components

Douglas Electrical Components (DECo), formerly Douglas Engineering Company, manufactures sealed wire harnesses, cables, conductors and fibers for use in a variety of applications including vacuum, pressure and environmental containment. These components, referred to as feedthroughs, are used most often in the following industries:

Semiconductor Equipment

Turn-key subassemblies are supplied just-in-time for ion etch tools, ion implantation systems, and in-line vacuum applications for cluster tools. Parts include hermetically sealed multi-layer circuit boards including multiple terminations, heated paddle subassemblies, and multi-cable penetrations. Douglas Electrical has become identified as a leader in high quality, cost effective, fast turnaround feed though subassemblies in multiple applications for this extremely demanding industry.

Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Equipment

In perhaps the most demanding application of epoxy sealing technology, Douglas Electrical Components (DECo) has supplied hundreds of thousands of motor terminals to the leading manufacturers of air conditioning and refrigeration compressors throughout the world. These parts are specified for high power, high-pressure applications where the strenuous environmental conditions have destroyed other manufacturers' components. Every year the company supplies tens of thousands of motor terminals in a wide variety of sizes and configurations for compressors in the fractional horse-power range to high tonnage units.

Their materials and components are approved by the leading environmental and safety regulating bodies, and provide their customers with extremely high reliability sealed conductors for their most demanding applications.

Space Simulation

Since the late 1970's Douglas Electrical Components has been the standard for vacuum penetration of space simulation chambers. Literally every major space simulation facility in the United States, plus many internationally, employ, Douglas Electrical as their sole supplier for high reliability hermetically sealed connectors and wire harnesses.

Vacuum Systems

Douglas Electrical utilizes their diverse engineering skills and creative problem solving to provide custom solutions to vacuum system manufacturers and users throughout the world. Research facilities and industrial applications that require high vacuum-sealed conductors using low out-gassing materials have selected Douglas Electrical's flange feedthroughs for over 20 years as their only solution. DECo's standard vacuum flange feedthroughs seal up to 128 conductors, with several hundred-foot lengths possible for custom designs. All types of shield conductors can be sealed directly, with multiple cables, studs, high voltage (up to 25KV) and optical fibers also available. Several customers have applied these seals in vacuum applications in to the 10-10 torr range and beyond.

Instrumentation and Control Systems

Douglas Electrical Components annually provides thousands of custom components to major sensor and control system manufacturers that require sealed electronics cavities for power or signal lead penetration. These applications typically range from 5 psi to 15,000 psi, with voltages running up to 15KV. Custom mounting schemes are typical, with application specific housings custom designed to provide customers with easy mounting, and low cost assembly for their manufacturing operations. Customers often require sealed connectors of various sizes and shapes, both with and without wire harnesses.

Electric Power

High Voltage Switch Gear: Standard standoff SF6 gas containment mountings as well as special geometries for mounting conductor packages for single wire through 30 conductor cables are provided. This is a demanding environment, and Douglas Electrical has met the challenge. As is standard for all DECo parts, 100% quality control testing is conducted on all shipments, including both vacuum and pressure tests where necessary to ensure absolute gas containment.

Transformers: Variations of these parts have been used on control transformers for over two decades. Conductor packages range from 3 #12 awg. TEFZEL wires, with 8"" leads to 15 #10 awg. With 300"" leads. The hermetic function is to contain the dielectric oil and to prevent the ingress of environmental contaminants. Testing is conducted at 100+ psi to ensure compliance with customer requirements.
