Stainless Steel Wire Rope Stainless Steel Wire Roes for Marine & General Applications Stainless steel wire ropes boast higher corrosion resistance to salt water than galvanized wire ropes, so they are the best choice of marine applications. Meanwhile, the bright appearance of galvanized wire ropes will dull over time, but stainless steel wire rope will maintain its bright and modern appearance for years. Therefore they are generally used in decoration for modern display and architectural purposes, such as railings, architectural cables, cable balustrades, handrails, etc. Two coils of stainless steel wire rope Stainless steel wire rope Normally, stainless steel wire rope is made of 304, 305 or 316. And here is a simple comparison of these materials: The 304 material, as the most common type, is magnetic with excellent corrosion resistance and strength compared with galvanized steel wire ropes. But it still will corrode to some extent over year so it is not suitable for marine and food applications. The 305 material is more corrosive resistant than 304. Meanwhile, it is largely non-magnetic perfectly suited for aeronautical and naval fields. The 316 materials is the most corrosive resistant type and highly used in high corrosion environments and places with high salt spray. But the 316 material is about 10% less strength than 304 stainless steel. Compacted Wire Ropes with Crimped Outer Strands The cross section of compacted wire rope with IWRC Compacted wire rope with decreased diameter yet increased tensile strength Compacted wire rope is composed of several wire strands which have gone through crimping wheels to compress and shape the individual wires to form compacted structures or reduce diameters before laying strands around the core. Taking advantage of the compacting process, the surface of outer wires is flattened and the contact area between strands is increased. Feature: Increased wear resistance of wires. Smoother bearing surface than traditional wire ropes. Increased tensile strength and lateral compression strength. Increase metal cross sectional area. Decreased blocks groove wearing. Three main types of compacted wire ropes can be offered: general compacted, fiber infilled and plastic injected steel wire rope: General compacted wire rope - This is the standard type of wire rope which is construction of normal inner core wire and compacted outer wire or strands. Fiber infilled wire rope - With compacted outer surface and added fibers & lubricant inside the rope, fiber infilled wire rope can efficiently reduce the friction between outer strands and inner core, protect the core form corrosion as well as maintain the stability of the rope. Plastic injected wire rope - It features special made plastic which is injected in the core of wire for separating the independent wire rope core and each strand totally. As an excellent alternative of traditional lubricant, the plastic reduces the friction and maintenance works. It is the wire strands, not the total rope that go through the compacting process. But as your request, swage compaction can be applied to the entire rope for flat surface and closer strand gaps. Rotation Resistant & Non-rotating Steel Wire Ropes

Steel Wire Ropes for Spin & Rotation Resistance

A rotation resistant steel wire rope is placed on the ground

Rotation resistant wire rope is composed of multi-layers of strands for minimizing the tendency to spin and rotation.

Rotation resistant wire rope refers to a series of steel ropes which minimizes the tendency to spin or rotation under load. These wire ropes boast special design - the outer layer is twisted in the reverse direction of inner layers for counteracting torsional forces generated from multi-layers of strands.

To achieve the resistance against the spin and rotation, all wire ropes are composed of at least two layers of strands. In general, more layers a rotation resistant wire rope has, more resistance it will boast. For example, 2-layer ropes is much easier to spin and rotate than 3-layer ones. Meanwhile, if one end of free rotation is allowed, 2-layer rope can only develop 55% to 75% of its breaking strength comparing with 95% to 100% of 3-layer ropes.

According to characteristics of rotation resistant wire ropes, three categories are supplied by our company to suit your different needs:

  • Wire ropes with 8 to 10 strands & 2-layer constructions without reversely twisted inner strands have very similar appearance to rotation resistant wire ropes, but they are not.
