In electronics, a switch is an electrical component that can break an electrical circuit, interrupting the current or diverting it from one conductor to another. Each set of contacts can be in one of two states: either 'closed' meaning the contacts are touching and electricity can flow between them, or 'open', meaning the contacts are separated and nonconducting.
A switch may be directly manipulated by a human or a sensor embedded circuit detecting or measuring physical quantities such as pressure, temperature, flow, current, voltage, force, and acceleration.
There are two common actuator type of manual triggering switches in everyday life: Biased switch and Toggle switch. A biased switch is often seen in the form of momentary push-button, either push-to-make or push-to-break the circuit. A toggle switch is a class of electrical switches that are manually actuated by a mechanical lever, handle, or rocking mechanism.
