A hopper is usually an open-top container that is used for the temporary storage of materials. There are many different types of hoppers, dumpers, and tippers.
Common hoppers include bottom hoppers, live hoppers, cropper hoppers, and sludge hoppers; dump boxes, chip boxes, trash boxes, and scrap boxes; and various types of refuse equipment. The specifications of a hopper include volume capacity, weight capacity, depth or length, width or diameter, height, and materials of construction.
