Injection molding is a manufacturing process for producing parts from plastic materials. Plastic material usually in the form of pellets is fed into a heated barrel, mixed, and forced into a mold cavity where it cools/cures and hardens to the shape of mold cavity.
Although the initial setup cost of injection molding is higher than most manufacturing processes for plastic parts, it has many advantages over other processes: low operational cost, high throughput, and the flexibility to make parts with complex shapes. Today, injection molding remains the most popular plastic manufacturing process in mass production.
