Message No. 20756, Started by vijay on 09/01/09

Hi all,

I am working for a vacuum process equipment manufacturing industry where big vacuum chamber (3m x 6m) are made to operate at 10-6 torr. I was told to do value engineering to reduce the cost of Vacuum chamber manufacturing. I have identified few of the features to remove apart from that I am thinking of using High strength low allow steel “HSLA” in place of ST37 which is currently used to build the chambers.

Before get into deep I thought of getting an opinion as well an idea about HSLA grades which are available to suit the following requirement.

1.      Should posses good weld ability.

2.      Should be vacuum compatible.

3.      Approximate cost comparison between ST37 and required grade HSLA.

Thanks in advance
