we all need to apply ourselves to something in this life to make a living.
Aside from that:

imagination is the key

if it doesn't grab you, if it is too dry or absolutely boring, there is no point in persuing it. I started engineering myself but did not persue it.

This knowledge explosion doesn't lead anywhere. Knowledge for the sake of knowledge, like the ancient Greek's ideal,
should not be funnelled into a single discipline because there is no end.

Knowledge is an eternity that God will eventually seal with his name.
