Yes, the rod will experience permenent deformation if its stress reaches or exceeds the yield point of the rod material.

For ordinary grade structural steel this will be around 275N/mm^2, hence the reason for checking the stress due to bending as well as
considering the `I` of the rod due to its deflection.
