You are completely correct, good points.  The ceramic coated Ti rotors that I worked with had such good wear characteristics that some of the sprint car guys could go a whole race season without having to get the rotors re-coated! Field testing and brake dyno testing showed similar results on the mountain bike designs for the cermic coated Ti. But man they are expensive!!
The MMC rotors were more reasonable cost wise and John Deconti has been developing MMC rotors for quite a while now so he is a wealth of knoweledge on the subject.
