Current Topic:
Rust vs. Corrosion
I'm hoping to get some communal help in the rust vs. corrosion area. I've gotten into a discussion with a safety engineer where I work regarding whether corrosion and rust are synonyms. He believes that they can be used intechangably. I think, however, that that corrosion is a degradation of the metal and rust, though a precurser to corrosion, is merely surface oxidation. Who is on the right track and where is it possible to find technical definitions of these two phenomenon? Webster's dictionary just isn't cutting it. Thanks.
