only bad attitude causes economic loss in peaceful use of atomic power plants
The simple fact of the matter is that something like 25% of the US's power comes from Nuclear Energy. Many of these reactors are approaching the end of thier useful life, some have already reached it. that generating capacity must be replaced by something. Coal and NG fired plants of the size and capacity to replace them will generate trillions of tons of CO2. and that does not account for new demand, only replacing existing demand. We're going to have to do something, and fusion is still a good ways away. it works in theory but nobody has made fusion generate more power than it takes to ignite the reaction. replacing the capacity with wind power will take more acreage than we have available in high wind areas same is true for terrestrial solar power. and wind energy isn't the wonderfully green process it is billed to be. people are discovering that birds, sometimes endagered ones, are running afoul of the spinning blades. There isn't any more rivers left to dam to generate more hydroelectric power. so where is the power going to come from?
