another way to skin this cat is to have two counterbalanced levers in series with the rolling path, in decending mass order such that only the solid steel ball is heavy enough to deflect the first one, only the part steel one will be able to deflect the second, and the remaining ones (should only be nylon) will roll off the end into the third bin. this is how vending machines sort washers from quarters.
