How efficient is iron smelting ?
I have some basic questions on iron smelting. Say you have an unlimited supply of iron oxide (Fe2O3) but only 300 tonnes of carbon available. How much iron, in practise, could you expect to get ? I'm sure this depends on a whole host of parameters about which I have no knowledge - I'm a 3rd year astrophysics student - but I really only need ballpark figures. Also, what size (mass) furnace would you need ?
Thanks for any help. Finding this stuff on the net is pretty impossible and I don't really know where to start.
