Current Topic:
How efficient is iron smelting ?
Your idea makes some sense Rorschach.

I'm sceptical that people living on Mars will want to smelt iron, especially if there are only a few people there.  The development of industry is greatly dependant on specialisation of individuals and economies of scale.  These would both be lacking in a small group of people.  Why smelt iron if you can use stone (there are lots of stone structures in the world.   Structures can be made quite strong using stone without any steel or wood these would use arched door ways and concave ceilings.
