Current Topic:
Beam Loading Question

John:

Currently there are 2 Beams in the 28 Foot Span (9 feet apart). I'm looking at moving one beam over about 6.5 feet.

Do you know the Calculation/Formula used by Structural Engineers? I used a formula in my Mechanics of Materials book and I'm not sure if the units are correct. I know that the 100lb/ft^2 load is very conservative but I'm afraid to show the plan to the township without additional facts.

Please let me know.

Thanks,

Tim
