Current Topic:
Beam Loading Question

Acroduster,

My bad .... Let me try to clear things up. Here's my previous statement:

"5) The beam is connected by small screws and 2 beams will remain just one will be moved over."

Instead of 2 beams, I should have said 2 posts...

Here's the situation:

There is a 28 foot one piece beam supported by 2 posts. I want to move one of the posts which will change the span between the posts to 15.5 ft where previously it was about 9 ft...

Current:

28 ft total  span (1pc steel S8X18.4 Beam) supported by poured concrete Foundation Wall... 9ft span to post 1 then another 9ft span to post 2 then a 9ft span to the Foundation Wall

Proposed:

28 ft total span (same S Beam)  9ft span to 1st post, 15.5 span to 2nd post then the remaining 3.5 ft goes to the Foundation Wall

Look it over and let me know what you think.

Thanks again for your help... I really appreciate it.

Tim Walsh
