Ok, if you really want to be scientific about the clamp, you could first screw the specimen on a fixture and install a strain gauge on the specimen. Measure the dynamic loading history of the impact, take the maximum stress observed and give it a safety factor of 2(two). Design your clamp using the stress/loading calculated.
