6% Stainless Steel Fiber EMI Shielding (conductive) ABS is a subcategory of Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene. The additative is added by weight during the manufacturing process. Its elastic modulus ranges from 300 to 400 MPa. Its flexural modulus ranges from 280 to 410 MPa. Its tensile strength ranges from 6300 to 9200 MPa at break. Its flexural strength ranges from 8700 to 11000 MPa. Its Izod Impact strength ranges from 1.2 to 1.4 J/cm. Its specific gravity ranges from 1.1 to 1.28. Its melting temperature ranges from 100 to 110 °C.
Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene, also known as ABS, is a thermoplastic. Common trade names are Cycolac and Lustran. It is tough, hard and rigid. It has good chemical resistance, dimensional stability, and creep resistance. It is electroplatable and inexpensive. It has moderate mechanical strength but with a tendency to stress crack. Also, it will be degraded (dissolved) when exposed to acetone. ABS is commonly used in electronic housings, auto parts, consumer products, pipe fittings, waste pipes, computer housings (electroplated on the inside), and automotive interior and exterior trim. ABS is considered superior for its hardness, gloss, toughness, and electrical insulation properties. Although ABS plastics are used primarily for their mechanical properties, they also have good electrical properties that are fairly constant over a wide range of frequencies.
