Unfilled Medium Melting Point LCP is a subcategory of Liquid Crystal Polymer. The additative is added during the manufacturing process. Its elastic modulus ranges from 1400 to 2800 MPa. Its flexural modulus ranges from 1500 to 1700 MPa. Its tensile strength ranges from 15900 to 27000 MPa at break. Its flexural strength ranges from 19000 to 35500 MPa. Its compressive strength ranges from 6200 to 19000 MPa. Its Izod Impact strength ranges from 1.7 to 10 J/cm. Its elongation at break ranges from 1.3 to 4.5 %. Its specific gravity ranges from 1.35 to 1.84. Its coefficient of thermal expansion ranges from 5 to 7 x 10-6/°C. Its melting temperature ranges from 280 to 421 °C. Its molding pressure ranges from 1 to 16 MPa.
Liquid Crystal Polymer, also known as LCP, is a thermoplastic. Common trade names are Vectra and Xydar. Although expensive, LCP has excellent strength and good high temperature properties. It can be used in thin wall (as thin as 0.2 mm) applications. LCP parts can withstand vapor phase reflow and autoclaving temperatures of 135 ºC. It has high chemical resistance and is flame retardant. It has very low coefficient of thermal expansion and high tensile modulus (from 10 to 24 GPa). LCP is commonly used in high-performance engineering applications such as electrical connectors and machine parts. It can be used in surgical devices, and some LCP's meet the standards of USP Class VI.
