Unfilled PMP is a subcategory of Polymethylpentene. The additative is added during the manufacturing process. Its elastic modulus ranges from 160 to 280 MPa. Its flexural modulus ranges from 70 to 190 MPa. Its tensile strength ranges from 2300 to 2500 MPa at break. Its flexural strength ranges from 6300 to 8300 MPa. Its Izod Impact strength ranges from 2 to 3 J/cm. Its elongation at break ranges from 20 to 120 %. Its hardness ranges from 35 to 85 Rockwell R. Its specific gravity ranges from 0.833 to 0.835. Its melting temperature ranges from 230 to 240 °C. Its molding pressure ranges from 1 to 10 MPa.
Polymethylpentene, also known as PMP, is a thermoplastic polymer. It has a very low density and is transparent. It has excellent chemical resistance, low moisture absorption, and exceptional acoustical and electrical properties. PMP can be found in sonar covers, speaker cones, ultrasonic transducer heads, and lightweight structural parts. It is also FDA compliant for use in food processing machinery. Polymethylpentene is often used in films and coatings for gas permeable packaging.
Additional Information
Other common Polymethylpentene (PMP) include Filled PMP.
