Heat Resistant PS is a subcategory of Polystyrene. It is specially formulated to heat resistant. Its elastic modulus ranges from 495 to 500 MPa. Its flexural modulus ranges from 450 to 500 MPa. Its tensile strength ranges from 6440 to 8200 MPa at break. Its flexural strength ranges from 13000 to 14000 MPa. Its compressive strength ranges from 13000 to 14000 MPa. Its Izod Impact strength ranges from 0.4 to 0.45 J/cm. Its elongation at break ranges from 2 to 3.6 %. Its hardness ranges from 75 to 84 Rockwell M. Its specific gravity ranges from 1.04 to 1.05. Its coefficient of thermal expansion ranges from 68 to 85 x 10-6/°C. Its melting temperature ranges from 100 to 110 °C. Its molding pressure ranges from 5 to 20 MPa.
Polystyrene, also known as PS, is a thermoplastic polymer. The most common trade name is Novacor 555. homopolymer It is an inexpensive material that is not structurally strong but easy to mold. It machines well, and is highly transparent. PS is commonly used for inexpensive packaging materials, pens, safety razors, flatware, and CD jewel boxes. In Styrofoam forms, PS is used to make high-throughput, thin-walled, easy-to-mold parts where structure is not paramount.
