High and Medium Flow PS is a subcategory of Polystyrene. It is specially formulated to high and medium flow. Its elastic modulus ranges from 480 to 490 MPa. Its flexural modulus ranges from 380 to 490 MPa. Its tensile strength ranges from 5200 to 7500 MPa at break. Its flexural strength ranges from 10000 to 14600 MPa. Its compressive strength ranges from 12000 to 13000 MPa. Its Izod Impact strength ranges from 0.35 to 0.45 J/cm. Its elongation at break ranges from 1.2 to 2.5 %. Its hardness ranges from 60 to 75 Rockwell M. Its specific gravity ranges from 1.04 to 1.05. Its coefficient of thermal expansion ranges from 50 to 83 x 10-6/°C. Its melting temperature ranges from 74 to 105 °C. Its molding pressure ranges from 5 to 20 MPa.
Polystyrene, also known as PS, is a thermoplastic polymer. The most common trade name is Novacor 555. homopolymer It is an inexpensive material that is not structurally strong but easy to mold. It machines well, and is highly transparent. PS is commonly used for inexpensive packaging materials, pens, safety razors, flatware, and CD jewel boxes. In Styrofoam forms, PS is used to make high-throughput, thin-walled, easy-to-mold parts where structure is not paramount.
