Sheets, Rods and Tubes; Rigid PVC is a subcategory of Polyvinylchloride. It is specially formulated to sheets, rods and tubes; rigid. Its elastic modulus ranges from 350 to 600 MPa. Its flexural modulus ranges from 300 to 500 MPa. Its tensile strength ranges from 5900 to 7500 MPa at break. Its flexural strength ranges from 10000 to 16000 MPa. Its compressive strength ranges from 8000 to 13000 MPa. Its Izod Impact strength ranges from 0.4 to 22 J/cm. Its elongation at break ranges from 40 to 80 %. Its hardness ranges from 65 to 85 Shore D. Its specific gravity ranges from 1.3 to 1.58. Its coefficient of thermal expansion ranges from 50 to 100 x 10-6/°C. Its melting temperature ranges from 75 to 105 °C. Its molding pressure ranges from 10 to 40 MPa.
Polyvinylchloride, also known as PVC, is a thermoplastic polymer. Common trade names are Geon and Viclon. PVC and PVC-AMC Its flexible grades are easy to process; and its rigid grades are low cost and have high dielectric strength, excellent outdoor stability, good chemical resistance, and good moisture stability. Both grades have low heat resistance. It is commonly used in pipes and fittings, wire and cable insulation, extruded films and sheets, and medical applications.
