To perform a unit conversion, one must select a unit
category, two units within that category, and a numeric value
for the first (top) unit. By default, the program first starts
in the LENGTH category, converts from INCH to METER, and sets a
numeric value of 1 for the inch unit. (Later, the program will
start with the conversion that was last used).
To select another CATEGORY, click on the current category
to obtain a pulldown list (or hit the "more..." button on
the quick-list at the bottom of the screen), and make your
selection. You can also select the categories associated with the seven
quick-pick buttons. Simply select Settings under the Edit menu,
pick the categories and enter how you want them to
appear on the buttons and hit 'Done' to save the changes.
To select another UNIT, click on the unit name that you want
to change to obtain a pulldown list, and make your selection.
You can SWAP the ordering of the units (i.e. turn an INCH to
METER conversion into a METER to INCH conversion) by hitting
the circular icon with the "up" and "down" arrows.
NUMERIC VALUES for the top unit are entered using the keypad
on the lower right of the screen (numeric values cannot be
entered for the bottom unit; use the swap feature instead).
Hitting the "back arrow" will delete the last number entered,
whereas hitting "Clr" will clear the entire entry. You can
enter a number in scientific notation using the "Exp" key to
indicate the power-of-10 exponent.
Your last conversion of each category is recorded so next time you come back to a perticular category your last conversion will be displayed.
Under the Edit menu you will find the Copy and Paste functions. You can use the Copy function to write the highlighted number in either the input box or the conversion result to the clipboard and share it with other palm programs. You can also paste the content of the clipboard to the input box by
using the 'Paste to Input Box' function.
To add a custom unit, first select the CATEGORY as described before, then select Custom Units from the Edit menu. The base unit of the selected category is shown along with the formula by which the Factor is defined. Enter the name of the new unit and the Factor (a number) and then click Add. You can add as many custom units as you wish and you can edit or delete them any time by selecting Custom Units from the Edit menu again.
The program also includes the SI Prefixes and a list of
common physical constants. Both of these features can be
accessed via the MISC menu.
