Strain relief is used to control the bend of a cable near the connector and/or avoid direct pulling force on the connector that connects to an electrical outlet or a hardware device. The Strain relief is typically a conical shaped polymer material with a series of ridges which allow the cable to bend, minimizes stress to the vulnerable point where the cabling meets the Connector or plug.
A strain relief device, although only a small piece in the middle of connection, may play important role on the reliability and durability of a electrical or electronic system. The size of a strain relief device depends on the diameter as well as the flexibility of the cable. Standard packages may come with the connectors and/or the cable installation kits.
