Butyl (IIR) is a synthetic rubber, a copolymer of isobutylene and isoprene. Butyl rubber has excellent impermeability and good flex properties. It is impermeable to air and used in many applications requiring an airtight rubber. Butyl is vulnerable to certain acids and oils.

Butyl is suitable for dynamic and static seal of o-rings in the environment containing the following chemicals: Acetaldehyde, Acetamide, Glacial Acetic Acid, Acetic Anhydride, Acetone, Acetophenone, Acetylene Gas, Air below 200 C, Aluminium Chloride, Aluminium Flouride, Aluminium Nitrate, Anhydrous Ammonia, Cold Gas Ammonia, Ammonium Carbonate, Ammonium Chloride, Concentrated Ammonium Hydroxide, Ammonium Nitrate, Ammonium Persulfate Solution, Ammonium Phosphate, Ammonium Sulfate, Aniline, Beer, Bleach Liquor, Borax Solutions, Boric Acid, Brake Fluid, Butyl Carbitol, Butyl Cellosolve, Calcium Carbonate, Calcium Chloride, Calcium Hydroxide, Calcium Hypochlorite, Calcium Nitrate, Calcium Sulfide, Carbitol 2, Carbon Monoxide, Carbonic Acid, Citric Acid, Cod Liver Oil, Coffee, Denatured Alcohol, Diacetone, Diacetone Alcohol, Diethylamine Glycol, Dow Corning 550, Dow Guard, Epoxy Resins, Ethanol, Ethyl Acetoacetate, Ethyl Alcohol, Ethyl Chloride, Ethyl Diamine, Ethyl Hexanol, Ethyl Silicate, Ethylene Glycol, Formaldehyde, Freon 13, Freon 31, Freon 32, Freon 502 (F22+F316), Freon C318, Fuel Oil, Furfural, Gelatine, Glucose, Glycerin, General Glycol, Helium, Hydrazine, Gas Hydrobromic Acid, Hydrochloric Acid, Hydrogen Gas, Isobutyl Alcohol, Isopropanol, Hydraulic Fluid (Phosphate Ester Type) Lindol, Lye, Mercuric Chloride, Mercury, Methyl Butyl Ketone, Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK), MIL-H-7083, Milk, MIL-L-25681, MIL-S-81087, Monovinyl Acetate, Gas Nitrogen, Oxalic Acid, Cold Oxygen, Ozone, Phosphoric Trichloride, Potassium Nitrate, Potassium Sulfate, Propanol, Propyl Alcohol, 55 (Phosphate Ester) 53 43 Pyrogard 42, Rapeseed Oil, Sea Water, Silicone Grease, Silicone Oils, Silver Nitrate, Sodium Bicarbonate, Sodium Carbonate, Sodium Hydroxide, Sucrose Solutions, Wet Sulfur Dioxide Gas, Sulfur Hexafluoride, Sulfurous Acid, Tannic Acid, Vinegar, Fresh Water, Whiskey.

O-Ring material Butyl is usually suitable for static seal in the environment containing Aluminium Acetate, Amyl Acetate, Amyl Alcohol, Aniline Oil, Animal Oil, Arachlor 1248, Argon, Automotive Brake Fluid, Benzaldehyde, Benzophenone, Benzyl Alcohol, Benzyl Benzoate, Benzyl Chloride, Butyl Alcohol, Butyraldehyde, Carbolic Acid (Phenol), Castor Oil, Cellosolve, Chloracetic Acid, Corn Oil, Dibenzyl Ether, Diethylamine, Dimethyl Formamide, Dimethyl Phthalate, Dioxane, Ethyl Cellulose, Ethyl Formate, Ethylene, Furfuryl Alcohol, Gallic Acid, Hydrocyanic Acid, Iodine, Isopropyl Acetate, Linsed Oil, Methyl Acetate, Methyl Acrylate, Methyl Alcohol, Methyl Cellosolve, Methyl Mercaptan, Methyl Oleate, Methyl Propyl Salicylate, Methylacrylic Acid, Neatsfoot Oil, N-Hexaldehyde, Nitrobenzene, Nitroethane, Nitromethane, Nitropropane, Octyl Alcohol, Peanut Oil, Phenol, Phosphoric Acid, Propyl Acetate, Propylene Oxide, 10E Pydraul, 90E 65E 50E 30E Pydraul, Skydrol 500, Sodium Chloride, Steam to 350F, Stearic Acid, Styrene Monomer, Dry Sulfur Dioxide Gas, Liquefied Under Pressure Sulfur Dioxide, Sulfur Trioxide, Tartaric Acid, Tertiary Butyl Alcohol, Tetrabutyl Titanate, Tetrahydrofuran, Wagner 21B Brake Fluid.
