Glossary » Design » Oring » Material » Natural Rubber

Natural rubber is a product coagulated from the latex of the rubber tree, hevea brasiliensis. Natural rubber features low compression set, high tensile strength, resilience, abrasion and tear resistance, good friction characteristics, excellent bonding capabilities to metal substrate, and good vibration dampening characteristics. It ages quickly when exposes to ozone, aromatic hydrocarbons, ketones, esters and aldehydes.

Natural Rubber is suitable for dynamic and static seal of o-rings in the environment containing the following chemicals: Aluminium Acetate, Aluminium Chloride, Aluminium Nitrate, Aluminium Sulfate, Cold Gas Ammonia, Ammonium Carbonate, Ammonium Chloride, Ammonium Nitrate, Ammonium Persulfate Solution, Ammonium Phosphate, Ammonium Sulfate, Amyl Alcohol, Beer, Boric Acid, Butyl Alcohol, Calcium Carbonate, Calcium Chloride, Calcium Hydroxide, Calcium Nitrate, Carbonic Acid, Castor Oil, Citric Acid, Coffee, Denatured Alcohol, Diethylamine Glycol, Dow Corning 550, Dow Guard, Ethanol, Ethyl Alcohol, Ethyl Hexanol, Ethylene Glycol, Freon 32, Freon 502 (F22+F316), Freon C318, Gallic Acid, Gelatine, Glucose, Glycerin, General Glycol, Helium, Hexyl Alcohol, Isobutyl Alcohol, Isopropanol, Mercuric Chloride, Mercury, Methanol, Methyl Alcohol, Milk, MIL-S-81087, Gas Nitrogen, Phenylhydrazine, Potassium Nitrate, Potassium Sulfate, Propanol, Propyl Alcohol, Sea Water, Silicone Grease, Silver Nitrate, Sodium Bicarbonate, Sodium Carbonate, Sodium Chloride, Sucrose Solutions, Tannic Acid, Tartaric Acid, Fresh Water, Whiskey.

O-Ring material Natural Rubber is usually suitable for static seal in the environment containing Acetylene Gas, Aluminium Flouride, Borax Solutions, Diethylamine, Ethyl Cellulose, Ethyl Diamine, Ethyl Silicate, Freon 31, Gas Hydrobromic Acid, Hydrocyanic Acid, Hydrogen Gas, Hydroquinone, Iso Octane, Lye, MIL-H-7083, MIL-L-25681, Nitroethane, Nitromethane, Octyl Alcohol, Cold Oxygen, Tertiary Butyl Alcohol, Tetrabutyl Titanate, Triethanolamine, Vinegar, VV-H-910.

O-Ring material Natural Rubber is sometimes ok for static seal but not for dynamic seal in the environment containing chemicals such as Acetone, Acrylonitrile, Air below 200 C, Carbon Monoxide, Oxalic Acid, Radiation, Dry Sulfur Dioxide Gas, Sulfur Trioxide.

Natural Rubber is not suitable for o-rings exposed in the environment containing chemicals such as Acetamide, Glacial Acetic Acid, Acetic Anhydride, Acetophenone, Acetyl Chloride, Alkazene, Anhydrous Ammonia, Hot Gas Ammonia, Amyl Acetate, Amyl Chloronaphthalene, Aniline Oil, Animal Oil, Arachlor 1248, Argon, Aromatic Fuel 50%, Askarel Transformer Oil, ASTM Fuel A, ASTM Fuel B, ASTM Fuel C, ASTM Oil Four, ASTM Oil One, ASTM Oil Three, ASTM Oil Two, Automatic Transmission Fluid, Benzaldehyde, Benzene, Benzene Sulfonic Acid, Benzine (Ligroin), Benzyl Alcohol, Benzyl Benzoate, Benzyl Chloride, Brake Fluid, Bromine Gas, Bromobenzene, Bunker Oil, Butadiene Monomer, Butane, Butter, Butyl Carbitol, Butyl Cellosolve, Butyraldehyde, Carbolic Acid (Phenol), Carbon Disulfide, Carbon Tetrachloride, Cellosolve, Tung Oil China Wood Oil, Chloracetic Acid, Chlordane, Chlorinated Solvents, Chlorine Dioxide, Chlorine Trifluoride, Wet Chlorine, Chloroform, Chlorosulfonic Acid, Chrome Plating Solution, Cod Liver Oil, Coolanol Monsanto, Corn Oil, Coal Tar Creosote, Creosylic Acid, Cyclohexane, Dibenzyl Ether, Dibutyl Phthalate, Dichloro-Butane, Diesel Oil, Di-ester Lubricant MIL-L-7808, Dimethyl Formamide, Dimethyl Phthalate, Dioxane, Diphenyl, Dowtherm A, Elco 28 Lubricant, Ethane, Ethyl Acetoacetate, Ethyl Benzene, Ethyl Benzoate, Ethyl Chloride, Ethyl Chlorocarbonate, Ethyl Ether, Ethyl Formate, Ethyl Mercaptan, Ethyl Pentachlorobenzene, Ethylene Dichloride, Ethylene Oxide, Ethylene Trichloride, Freon 11 (M), Freon 112, Freon 113, Freon 114B2, Freon 21, Freon TF, Fuel Oil, Furan, Furfural, Furfuryl Alcohol, Automotive Gasoline, Petroleum Base Grease, Heptane, Hexane, Petroleum Base Hydraulic Oil, Hydrazine, Hydrobromic Acid, Iodine, Isopropyl Acetate, Isopropyl Chloride, Isopropyl Ether, JP 3 MIL-J5624, JP 4 MIL-J5624, JP 5 MIL-J5624, JP 6 MIL-J5624, Kerosene, Lacquer Solvents, Lacquers, Animal Fat Lard, Hydraulic Fluid (Phosphate Ester Type) Lindol, Linoleic Acid, Linsed Oil, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), Petroleum Base Lubricating Oils, Malathion, Maleic Acid, Methyl Acetate, Methyl Acrylate, Methyl Butyl Ketone, Methyl Cellosolve, Methyl Chloride, Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK), Methyl Isobutyl Ketone (MIBK), Methyl Methacrylate, Methyl Oleate, Methyl Propyl Salicylate, Methylacrylic Acid, Methylene Chloride, MIL-F-25558 (RJ-1), MIL-F-25656, MIL-G-25760, MIL-H-5606, JP-5 JP-4 JP-3 MIL-J 5624, MIL-R-25576 (RP-1), Type 1 Fuel MIL-S-3136, Mineral Oils, Monovinyl Acetate, Naphtha, Naphthalene, Naphthalenic, Neatsfoot Oil, N-Hexaldehyde, Nitric Acid, Nitrobenzene, Nitrogen Tetroxide, Nitropropane, N-Octane, N-Pentane, Oleic Acid, Oleum (Fuming Sulfuric Acid), Oronite 8200, Ozone, Peanut Oil, Petroleum Oil, Phenol, Phosphoric Acid, Phosphoric Trichloride, Pine Oil, Producer Gas, Propane, Propyl Acetate, Propylene, Propylene Oxide, 10E Pydraul, 540C 312F 230C Pydraul, 90E 65E 50E 30E Pydraul, Transformer Oil Pyranol, 55 (Phosphate Ester) 53 43 Pyrogard 42, Rapeseed Oil, Red Oil, RJ-1 (MIL-F-25558), RP-1 (MIL-R-25576), Skydrol 500, Soyabean Oil, Steam to 350F, Stoddard Solvent, Styrene Monomer, Sulfur Chloride, Liquefied Under Pressure Sulfur Dioxide, Sulfur Hexafluoride, Tertiary Butyl Mercaptan, Tetrabromoethane, Tetrachloroethane, Tetrachloroethylene, Tetraethyl Lead, Tetrahydrofuran, Tetralin, Toluene, Type A Transmission Fluid, Turbine Oil, Turpentine, Varnish, White Pine Tar, Xylene.
