Glossary » Design » Oring » Material » Neoprene

Neoprene, homopolymer of chlorobutadiene (CR), is moderately resistant to both petroleum oils and weather (ozone, UV, oxygen). Neoprene is classified as a general purpose elastomer which has relatively low compression set, good resilience and abrasion, and is flex cracking resistant. Neoprene has excellent adhesion qualities to metals for rubber to metal bonding applications. It is used extensively for sealing refrigeration fluids due to its excellence resistance to FreonĀ® and ammonia.

Neoprene is suitable for dynamic and static seal of o-rings in the environment containing the following chemicals: Acetamide, Acetic Anhydride, Acetylene Gas, Acrylonitrile, Aluminium Chloride, Aluminium Flouride, Aluminium Nitrate, Aluminium Sulfate, Anhydrous Ammonia, Cold Gas Ammonia, Ammonium Carbonate, Ammonium Chloride, Concentrated Ammonium Hydroxide, Ammonium Nitrate, Ammonium Phosphate, Ammonium Sulfate, Amyl Alcohol, Amyl Borate, ASTM Oil One, ASTM Oil Two, Benzoic Acid, Borax Solutions, Boric Acid, Butyl Alcohol, Calcium Carbonate, Calcium Chloride, Calcium Hydroxide, Calcium Nitrate, Calcium Sulfide, Carbon Monoxide, Castor Oil, Tung Oil China Wood Oil, Chloracetic Acid, Citric Acid, Coffee, Denatured Alcohol, Diethylamine Glycol, Dow Corning 550, Dow Guard, Epoxy Resins, Ethanol, Ethyl Alcohol, Ethyl Diamine, Ethyl Hexanol, Ethyl Silicate, Ethylene Glycol, Freon 113, Freon 114, Freon 114B2, Freon 13, Freon 22, Freon 31, Freon 32, Freon 502 (F22+F316), Freon C318, Freon TF, Gelatine, Glycerin, General Glycol, Helium, Hydrogen Gas, Iso Octane, Isobutyl Alcohol, Linsed Oil, Lye, Mercuric Chloride, Mercury, Methanol, Milk, MIL-S-81087, Mineral Oils, Natural Gas, N-Hexaldehyde, Gas Nitrogen, N-Pentane, Oronite 8200, Cold Oxygen, Petroleum Oil, Potassium Nitrate, Potassium Sulfate, Propanol, Propyl Alcohol, Silicone Grease, Silicone Oils, Silver Nitrate, Sodium Bicarbonate, Sodium Carbonate, Sodium Chloride, Sodium Hydroxide, Soyabean Oil, Sucrose Solutions, Sulfur Hexafluoride, Tannic Acid, Tartaric Acid, Whiskey.
