Polysulfide was one of the first commercial synthetic elastomers. It has excellent weather resistance to combinations of solvents. It is essential for applications involving combinations of ethers, ketones, and petroleum solvents used by the paint and insecticide industries. Polysulfide has limited high remperature capabilities. Its applications are further restricted by its poor mechanical strength and poor resistance to compression set.
Polysulfide is suitable for dynamic and static seal of o-rings in the environment containing the following chemicals: Acetone, Cold Gas Ammonia, Ammonium Chloride, Amyl Borate, ASTM Fuel A, ASTM Oil One, Benzine (Ligroin), Bunker Oil, Butane, Calcium Chloride, Calcium Nitrate, Carbonic Acid, Cyclohexane, Denatured Alcohol, Diesel Oil, Dow Corning 550, Ethane, Ethanol, Ethyl Alcohol, Ethyl Oxalate, Freon 11 (M), Freon 112, Freon 114, Freon 13, Freon 32, Freon C318, Freon TF, Fuel Oil, Automotive Gasoline, General Glycol, Petroleum Base Grease, Helium, Heptane, Hexane, Hexyl Alcohol, Petroleum Base Hydraulic Oil, Isopropanol, Isopropyl Ether, Lacquer Solvents, Lacquers, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), Mercury, Methyl Butyl Ketone, Methyl Ether, MIL-F-25558 (RJ-1), MIL-R-25576 (RP-1), Gas Nitrogen, N-Pentane, Oleic Acid, Potassium Nitrate, Propane, Propanol, Propyl Alcohol, Red Oil, RJ-1 (MIL-F-25558), RP-1 (MIL-R-25576), Silicone Grease, Silicone Oils, Tannic Acid, Tetrachloroethane, Tetrahydrofuran, Type A Transmission Fluid, Turbine Oil, Varnish.
