20% Glass Fiber Reinforced Injection Molding Grade ABS is a subcategory of Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene. The additative is added by weight during the manufacturing process. Its flexural modulus ranges from 650 to 800 MPa. Its tensile strength ranges from 10500 to 13000 MPa at break. Its flexural strength ranges from 14000 to 17500 MPa. Its compressive strength ranges from 13000 to 14000 MPa. Its Izod Impact strength ranges from 1.1 to 1.4 J/cm. Its elongation at break ranges from 2 to 3 %. Its hardness ranges from 85 to 98 Rockwell M. Its specific gravity ranges from 1.18 to 1.22. Its coefficient of thermal expansion ranges from 20 to 21 x 10-6/°C. Its melting temperature ranges from 100 to 110 °C. Its molding pressure ranges from 15 to 30 MPa.
Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene, also known as ABS, is a thermoplastic. Common trade names are Cycolac and Lustran. It is tough, hard and rigid. It has good chemical resistance, dimensional stability, and creep resistance. It is electroplatable and inexpensive. It has moderate mechanical strength but with a tendency to stress crack. Also, it will be degraded (dissolved) when exposed to acetone. ABS is commonly used in electronic housings, auto parts, consumer products, pipe fittings, waste pipes, computer housings (electroplated on the inside), and automotive interior and exterior trim. ABS is considered superior for its hardness, gloss, toughness, and electrical insulation properties. Although ABS plastics are used primarily for their mechanical properties, they also have good electrical properties that are fairly constant over a wide range of frequencies.
