40-50% Glass Fiber and Mineral Reinforced Polyester is a subcategory of Polyester. The additative is added by weight during the manufacturing process. Its elastic modulus ranges from 1350 to 1800 MPa. Its flexural modulus ranges from 1250 to 1600 MPa. Its tensile strength ranges from 12000 to 14800 MPa at break. Its flexural strength ranges from 18500 to 23500 MPa. Its Izod Impact strength ranges from 0.7 to 2 J/cm. Its elongation at break ranges from 2 to 5 %. Its hardness ranges from 75 to 86 Rockwell M. Its specific gravity ranges from 1.58 to 1.74. Its melting temperature ranges from 220 to 228 °C. Its molding pressure ranges from 10 to 15 MPa.
Polyester is a thermoplastic or thermoset polycondensate. Common trade names are Valox and Celanex. poly(butylene-terephthalate) It has excellent dimensional stability, high dielectric strength, and good toughness. It has moderate chemical resistance, low resistance to strong acids and bases, and is notch sensitive. However, it is not recommended for outdoor use or in hot water. Polyester is very popular in making clothing and handles.
