40 - 45% Glass Fiber Reinforced Polyester is a subcategory of Polyester. The additative is added by weight during the manufacturing process. Its elastic modulus ranges from 1800 to 1950 MPa. Its flexural modulus ranges from 1400 to 2190 MPa. Its tensile strength ranges from 14000 to 27500 MPa at break. Its flexural strength ranges from 21000 to 42400 MPa. Its compressive strength ranges from 20500 to 24000 MPa. Its Izod Impact strength ranges from 0.9 to 2.4 J/cm. Its elongation at break ranges from 1.5 to 3 %. Its hardness ranges from 118 to 119 Rockwell R. Its specific gravity ranges from 1.58 to 1.74. Its coefficient of thermal expansion ranges from 18 to 21 x 10-6/°C. Its melting temperature ranges from 252 to 255 °C. Its molding pressure ranges from 8 to 12 MPa.
Polyester is a thermoplastic or thermoset polycondensate. Common trade names are Valox and Celanex. poly(ethylene-terephthalate) It has excellent dimensional stability, high dielectric strength, and good toughness. It has moderate chemical resistance, low resistance to strong acids and bases, and is notch sensitive. However, it is not recommended for outdoor use or in hot water. Polyester is very popular in making clothing and handles.
