30 - 50% Mineral Filled Polyester is a subcategory of Polyester. The additative is added by weight during the manufacturing process. Its elastic modulus ranges from 1500 to 2700 MPa. Its flexural modulus ranges from 1250 to 2500 MPa. Its tensile strength ranges from 10400 to 16500 MPa at break. Its flexural strength ranges from 14200 to 23500 MPa. Its compressive strength ranges from 6900 to 7500 MPa. Its Izod Impact strength ranges from 0.8 to 3 J/cm. Its elongation at break ranges from 1.1 to 4 %. Its specific gravity ranges from 1.63 to 1.89. Its coefficient of thermal expansion ranges from 9 to 65 x 10-6/°C. Its molding pressure ranges from 1 to 14 MPa.
Polyester is a thermoplastic or thermoset polycondensate. Common trade names are Valox and Celanex. wholly aromatic (liquid crystal) It has excellent dimensional stability, high dielectric strength, and good toughness. It has moderate chemical resistance, low resistance to strong acids and bases, and is notch sensitive. However, it is not recommended for outdoor use or in hot water. Polyester is very popular in making clothing and handles.
