20% Long and Short Glass Fiber Reinforced PS is a subcategory of Polystyrene. The additative is added by weight during the manufacturing process. Its elastic modulus ranges from 900 to 1200 MPa. Its flexural modulus ranges from 950 to 1100 MPa. Its tensile strength ranges from 10000 to 12000 MPa at break. Its flexural strength ranges from 14000 to 18000 MPa. Its compressive strength ranges from 16000 to 17000 MPa. Its Izod Impact strength ranges from 0.9 to 2.5 J/cm. Its elongation at break ranges from 1 to 1.3 %. Its hardness ranges from 80 to 95 Rockwell M. Its coefficient of thermal expansion ranges from 39.6 to 40 x 10-6/°C. Its molding pressure ranges from 10 to 20 MPa.
Polystyrene, also known as PS, is a thermoplastic polymer. The most common trade name is Novacor 555. homopolymer It is an inexpensive material that is not structurally strong but easy to mold. It machines well, and is highly transparent. PS is commonly used for inexpensive packaging materials, pens, safety razors, flatware, and CD jewel boxes. In Styrofoam forms, PS is used to make high-throughput, thin-walled, easy-to-mold parts where structure is not paramount.
