Named after the German physicist Georg Simon Ohm (1789-1854), the ohm is the unit of electrical resistance in the SI system. It is equal to the resistance that produces the potential difference of 1 volt when the current is 1 ampere. Equivalently, 1 ohm of resistance causes 1 watt of power dissipation when 1 ampere flows through it.
