Named after H. Darcy (1803-1858), one darcy corresponds to the volume of a liquid with a dynamic viscosity of 1 centipoise flowing through a porous material with a cross section of 1 cm2 in 1 second when undergoing a pressure drop of 1 atm/cm. This unit was used in hydrology and civil engineering to measure the permeability of porous materials. |
