Named after the Danish physicist and chemist Hans Christian Oersted (1777-1851), oersted is defined as the intensity of a magnetic auxiliary field in vacuum where a unit magnetic pole (one that repels a similar pole placed one centimeter away with one dyne) experiences a force of one dyne in the direction of the field.
